Guide
How to submit a URL to Google
Half the advice you will find refers to tools Google has since switched off. These are the methods that still exist, ranked by how much they actually do.
Every submission method, and what it is really for
If a guide tells you to ping an endpoint or fill in a public submission form, it was written before 2023 and has not been updated since.
| Method | Best for | Speed | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| URL Inspection → Request Indexing | One urgent page you just published or fixed | Hours to days | Small daily quota per property |
| Sitemap | Every URL on the site, continuously | Days | None in practice |
| Indexing API | Automated submission at volume | Minutes to hours | 200 / day / Cloud project |
| Internal links | Making pages worth crawling at all | Ongoing | None |
| Ping endpoint | Nothing — switched off in 2023 | — | — |
| "Submit URL" public form | Nothing — retired years ago | — | — |
Choosing between them
One page, right now
Search Console → URL Inspection → Request Indexing. It runs a live fetch and queues the URL. Do not submit the same URL repeatedly; it does not move you up any queue and it burns your daily quota.
A hundred pages
Sitemap plus the Indexing API. Manual submission does not scale, and the per-property request quota is far too small for a content launch.
A page you just changed
Recrawling is a slightly different problem with different levers — see how to get Google to recrawl.
Anything on Bing
Google-only methods do nothing there. IndexNow covers Bing, Yandex, Seznam and Naver in a single call.
